Amazon Preps Robotics-Equipped Sorting Warehouse in Texas

Amazon plans to build a 248,687-square-foot sorting warehouse in Georgetown, Texas, according to a July 6 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The facility will sit within Amazon's broader fulfillment network.
The site will use robotic systems to bring items to employees for order fulfillment prior to packaging and shipping, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed. It will also include multiple storage areas — including specialty and cold goods — plus office and support space.
The $48 million project is set to break ground Aug. 30, 2026, with completion targeted for July 2027. Amazon says the facility is intended to speed up delivery of everyday essentials for local customers while creating new jobs in the community.
This continues Amazon's broader automation push: last year the company unveiled new robots (including "Tipper," which automatically unloads packages from carts onto conveyor belts) to cut manual tasks, and in 2024 it broke ground on a 3 million-square-foot robotics fulfillment center in North Carolina.
