Air Cargo Carriers Repays USPS $350K Over False Delivery Reports

According to a recent report from FreightWaves, Air Cargo Carriers LLC has reimbursed the U.S. Postal Service more than $350,000 after admitting to falsifying mail delivery records. From 2018 to 2021, the Milwaukee-based airline submitted inaccurate barcode scans for mail bins on its Caribbean routes, making it appear that deliveries met contractual deadlines.

An investigation by the USPS Office of Inspector General, triggered by a whistleblower, revealed that scans were generated internally rather than via handheld devices, misrepresenting actual delivery times. The settlement included $187,000 in restitution to USPS.

Despite the settlement, Air Cargo Carriers continues to operate its 26-aircraft fleet under its $71 million contract through 2028. The case follows similar fraud settlements involving carriers like Sky Lease Cargo, UPS, United Airlines, and American Airlines, highlighting a persistent challenge in the air cargo industry.
